Ezira Ejigu: A passionate guardian of Ethiopian history and the legacy of its unsung heroes.
Ezira Ejigu, a notable media figure recognized for his historical documentation, was born in 1979 in Addis Ababa. At just 11 years old, he developed a strong passion for literature and media. During his teenage years, he became fascinated by French encyclopedia diligently recording information about various countries including their populations and land sizes.
In 1993, while in the 8th grade, a wave of free press swept through the nation, bringing forth an abundance of newspapers and magazines to the market. Ezra embraced his passion for media immersing himself in these publications and occasionally contributing to their content.


Between 1994 and 2000, he devoted six years to penning articles for Legedadi Radio, leaving a significant mark in the realm of journalism. Remarkably, when Ethiopia’s inaugural children’s magazine, “Kukulu,” debuted in 1994, he was proudly counted among its distinguished contributors. As he progressed into high school, he joined Bole High school’s Mini Media, where he served from 1994 to 1997. During this enriching period, he had the honor of presenting the film “Acapulco Bay,” which was broadcast on ETV, to his classmates through Mini Media.


Ezra reflects that, from a young age, he found joy in documenting history by recording television and radio programs. Perhaps he was preserving these voices and stories for the future. He envisioned a day when he would establish his own company, ensuring that these historical recordings continue to serve a purpose in his work today.


He embarked on his academic journey at Addis Ababa University in 1998, earning a diploma in Ethiopian Languages and Literature in 2001. Following his graduation, he contributed his talents to Addis Admas, Ruh, and Zepress newspapers until 2003. That same year, he took on the role of deputy editor-in-chief for a prominent magazine called kumnger.


In 2004, Ezra founded his own company and launched a free advertisement newspaper named “Tewedaj,” which ran until 2008. Driven by a deep commitment to preserving history for future generations, he began comprehensive research into historical preservation in 2003. In 2016, he proudly introduced an initiative dedicated to recording history on CD and DVD.
In a nation where it is uncommon to showcase personal histories in audio and video formats on CD, Ezra has expertly compiled and shared the stories of 46 distinguished national figures through his organization.
Among those highlighted are revered individuals such as Tsafe Tizaz Aklilu Habtewold, Professor Richard Pankhurst, Emperor Menilik II, and General Jagema Kelo, each of whom has made significant contributions to the country’s heritage. Out of these published works, 19 were crafted to an exceptional standard reflecting a high level of quality and dedication. Furthermore, this initiative created valuable employment opportunities for 32 individuals, showcasing the project’s positive impact on the community and its role in fostering a deeper appreciation for Ethiopia’s rich history.
In April 2021, Ezra brought his grand vision to life by introducing “Encyclopedia” dedicated to Ethiopian media personnel who have made significant contributions to their homeland. With meticulous attention and firm dedication, he crafted an impressive 600-page volume that exquisitely portrays the lives and accomplishments of 180 outstanding media professionals.
This impressive work, which showcases the diverse talents and significant impact of these individuals on the Ethiopian media landscape, was officially unveiled in July 2022. Through this monumental effort, Ezra not only honors these influential figures but also enriches the cultural fabric of Ethiopia, ensuring that their stories and legacies are preserved for future generations to appreciate and learn from.

Additionally, he has authored 21 books that shed light on the histories of notable Ethiopians, as recounted by storytellers and their descendants. Moreover, he has generously shared his expertise as a consultant with numerous award-winning organizations, lending his insights and guidance to enhance their projects. In addition to this, he has served as a biographical editor meticulously crafting narratives that honor the lives of influential figures.
Furthermore, Ezra has played a pivotal role as both a consultant and producer for a wide range of biographies, ensuring that the stories of remarkable individuals are thoughtfully and accurately represented. His dedication to preserving these narratives not only enriches the cultural landscape but also inspires future generations to appreciate the legacies of those who came before them. Through his work, he continues to make a lasting impact, fostering a deeper understanding of history and its relevance in today’s world.

With an ambitious vision, Ezra aims to inspire millions of individuals to document their own stories on a single page over the next decade. By encouraging this collective storytelling, he hopes to create a rich tapestry of diverse narratives that reflect the unique lives and experiences of people from all walks of life. Through this initiative, he is not only preserving personal histories but also building a platform for connection and understanding among individuals across different backgrounds.
 
Ezra is presently dedicating full-time efforts to crafting personal narratives, with the aspiration of carrying on this endeavor in the future. Additionally, he was instrumental in the preparation and publication of an English-language biography that highlights the lives of 180 media figures.
