“Wub Addis” Serialized Drama Introduces New Initiatives

A competition rewarding actors with up to 1 million birr

A new serialized television drama produced by film professional Tehodros Teshome has been announced, along with the introduction of a system designed to benefit talented actors as the show prepares to go on air.

At a press briefing held today, Tahisas 7, 2018 (E.C.), at Arada Park in Piazza, Teodros Teshome, together with executives from Addis Media Network, stated that talented individuals will compete, and winners will participate in the film and receive substantial cash prizes.

The drama, which is said to have four seasons and 52 episodes, will be broadcast on Addis Media Network. Speaking on the occasion was the talent competition’s showrunner, Assistant Professor Tesfaye Eshetu, who explained that the primary goal is to introduce new faces. He added that the competition is designed to engage viewers’ emotions and easily attract television audiences

According to film professional Teodros Teshome, the drama is a fully action-packed, gripping work told through two parallel storylines.

Teodros Teshome also emphasized that the project presents a major opportunity for new and talented actors. Addressing young aspiring actors, he said: “Fasten your seatbelts and wait for good news. A platform has been created where you will be selected for acting purely based on your talent, while the public watches you on television.”

All 52 episodes will be directed by different directors, making the project a participatory artistic endeavor that provides special opportunities for professionals. Teodros Teshome, the film’s executive producer and writer, said, “We have come with a strong artistic work.”


Addis Media Network’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Kassahun Gonfa, stated that by working with professionals, they have brought forward content that suits their audience. He added that they are committed to satisfying viewers and that management has made firm decisions to deliver work that meets high standards.


Professionals also announced that actor selection will begin tomorrow. Anyone living in Addis Ababa who wishes to participate in the film can register in person.
Artist Tesfaye Sima will also take part in the series by organizing workshops to train actors, in addition to acting. Professionals note that this demonstrates how the overall “Wub Addis” team has been structured in a professional manner.

Actors who win the talent competition will not only receive 1,000,000 birr but will also be given the opportunity to work as lead actors in the film. Teodros Teshome explained that the script was written 20 years ago and added that well-known actors will also take part.

Teodros Teshome, who previously served as president of the Ethiopian Audio-Visual Producers Association, has played a significant role in Ethiopian cinema—from his early work at Teddy Studio in the 1990s to the present day.
In particular, Teodros has won numerous international awards for the film “Sost Ma’ezn” (Three Corners). Domestically, he won the 2017 Guma Award for Best Supporting Actor for the film “Zimtayé.”
