Anteneh Degfe

Born in Addis Ababa in December 19, 1984, Anteneh Degfe has lived a remarkable life driven by his passions and influential nature. His journey of self-discovery began in his youth in the neighborhood near Teferi Mekonnen School. While his peers played, he found solace in music, forming a strong connection that guided his path.
Starting his education at Mekane Yesus School, he delved into his studies. It was at Jerusalem Elementary and Junior High School where he not only gained knowledge but also discovered his authentic self. Showing promise early on, Anteneh confidently recited in both Amharic and English in second grade and took part in media projects that fueled his passion for communication. In eleventh and twelfth grade at Yekatit 12 Preparatory School, his artistic abilities blossomed through theater participation, under the mentorship of artist Thomas Beyene, revealing yet another hidden talent within him.


In 2002, Anteneh’s life took an interesting turn when he explored dance at the Ras Theater Culture Department while waiting for his exam results. Despite his university admission score not matching his goals, he followed his passion for music by studying the saxophone at Yared’s school of music, going against his father’s wishes for him to become a teacher.


With an unwavering passion for education and a profound love for language, Anteneh embarked on a remarkable academic journey at Bahir Dar University. There, he devoted himself to the study of pedagogical science and embraced the intricacies of the English language through composite major. Simultaneously, he immersed himself in the vibrant world of arts, generously lending his talents and creativity to the university’s cultural center, thereby enriching its cultural tapestry.


In 2006, Anteneh started his career as an English teacher at Yekatit 66 .secondary School, where he became known as “Michael” among students for his charming personality and stylish attire. However, his interest in journalism led him to training and swift advancement in the field, eventually earning a post-graduate degree in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) from Addis Ababa University in 2009.


In the year 2007, he became an integral part of Fana Broadcasting Corporation assuming the role of a Senior Reporter and newscaster. Following his successful completion of journalism training, he was entrusted with responsibilities in the news department. This position granted him direct access to a wide spectrum of news formats, spanning from concise updates to comprehensive newsletters and extensive news archives. Within this dynamic environment, he emerged as a proficient reporter, specializing in diverse topics such as business, education, defense, and the arts. His reports were characterized by thoroughness and a dedicated focus on these crucial subjects.


Alongside his journalism work, he formed a band with friends but had to briefly set aside his musical ambitions. Undeterred, he continued his professional journey as a news editor at Amhara Television before becoming the Community Radio Manager at Hawassa University. In this role, he not only managed the popular Hawassa Voice FM 97.7 radio station but also taught English and mentored volunteer journalists.


In 2013, Anteneh joined the Ethiopian Commodity Exchange (ECX) as a communications specialist, excelling in public relations and gaining expertise in marketing coffee and sesame. The following year, he became a freelance newsreader at Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation, captivating audiences with his engaging delivery. Anteneh’s stage management talents were also showcased as he led various grand events such as beauty pageants,exhibition ,music concerts, public forums and inugrial ceremonies proving himself as a sought-after leader.

His journey exemplifies the power of pursuing one’s true calling and the profound impact an individual can have when driven by a genuine desire for change. Through his unwavering dedication to journalism, musicparticularly playing drum, and community development, he has left an indelible imprint on Ethiopian society.
