The Veteran Insurance Professional to Be Honored

The veteran insurance professional Mr. Ayalew Bezabeh, who served as Chief Executive Officer of the Ethiopian Insurance Corporation, is to be honored with a recognition ceremony.

The appreciation event will be held on Thursday, Tahsas 16, 2018 E.C. at the Hilton Hotel. Current and former insurance professionals, along with the honoree’s family
members and friends, are expected to attend the ceremony.

It has been learned that an independent committee was formed to organize the event and has been working on it for the past three months.

Speaking to Tewodaj Media, one of the committee members, Mr. Tesfaye Fente, said:
“…Ato Ayalew created opportunities for us to receive training both inside and outside the country. The current insurance system in our country is built on the foundation he laid, which is why he is a highly respected senior professional.”
Mr. Tesfaye Fente, one of the initiators of the idea, also told Tewodaj Media that because Mr. Ayalew Bezabeh left a significant mark on the insurance sector, his close friends were motivated to organize this appreciation event.
The honoree’s experience serves as a lesson for the new generation; current young insurance professionals will benefit from his knowledge and experience. For this reason, his close friends say they organized this day of recognition.

The committee members who played a major role in organizing the event include Mr. Tesfaye Fente, Mrs. Gegetnesh Hailemariam, Mr. Tsegaye Kemsi, Mr. Menberu Dibekulu, Mrs. Merima Mohammed, Mr. Yihun Amanuel from Canada, and Mr. Tezera Belhu from the United States.

At the event to be held at the Hilton, a 45-minute documentary film focusing on Mr. Ayalew Bezabeh will be screened. It has been announced that the documentary was produced by Sintayehu Taye. A traditional “kaba” dressing ceremony will also be held in honor of Mr. Ayalew Bezabeh.

Those close to him say that Mr. Ayalew Bezabeh made great strides by expanding insurance branches, increasing public awareness of insurance, creating job opportunities for employees, and ensuring that performance and accountability reports were submitted to the government.
During his tenure, insurance branches that had previously been limited to Addis Ababa expanded their reach. Under his leadership, the Ethiopian Insurance Corporation began providing services in Gondar, Hawassa, Jimma, Nazret, Dire Dawa, Nekemte, Kombolcha, and even as far as Djibouti.
In an interview he gave for Tewodaj Media’s forthcoming encyclopedia on banking and insurance—Mr. Ayalew Bezabeh stated that he did everything within his capacity to ensure that insurance in Ethiopia developed and operated in a modern form.
