Birth and Childhood
Born in Aris Bekoj in 1970, his educational journey was marked by remarkable achievements from the very beginning. Despite stiff competition, he emerged as one of the top three students in a cohort of 100, earning a double promotion that propelled him to the pinnacle of his class. This early success set the stage for a distinguished academic path that would eventually lead him to pioneering pursuits in journalism and media.
Entry to Journalisim
His entry into the field of journalism started with significant contributions to well-known German and American radio stations, where he showcased his skill in storytelling and communication. He remained steadfast in delivering compelling narratives across different programs on Ethiopian radio, Legedadi Radio, American and German radio stations, as well as Asmara radio and police newspapers. By concentrating on providing timely and pertinent content, Eskinder’s writing emerged as an influential voice in the media sector, connecting with audiences both locally and internationally.
Eskinder’s journey took him to Addis Ababa, where he quickly immersed himself in the vibrant landscape of journalism as a member of Wubet Amateur Journalist’s Club. His proactive approach and dedication to honing his craft led him to assume the role of chairman, a testament to his leadership skills and visionary perspective. Apart from short courses, he has a diploma in print journalism and a bachelor’s degree in language and literature from Addis Ababa University. In his professional career, he has worked at the Walta Information Center, Addis Broadcasting Company, and the Ministry of Revenue, from reporter to team coordinator.
Walta Information Center served as a pivotal platform for Eskinder’s career, providing dynamic job opportunities and tailored training sessions that further enriched his professional acumen. His commitment to journalistic integrity and excellence was exemplified in his role as a reporter and editor at Walta Information Center, where he spent four and a half years honing his craft. His subsequent tenure as a reporter at Addis Zena newspaper and his continued involvement in writing and editing for print media at the Ministry of Revenue’s Communications Directorate underscore his unwavering dedication to the field.
Beyond journalism, Eskinder has left a lasting impact in the world of literature with the publication of three thought-provoking books – “Red Roots”, “Why?”, and “Carpets of Authorities”. Penned in Amharic, these works are a reflection of his personal experiences and deep understanding of traditional media, solidifying his stature as a visionary and influential figure in the field. Additionally, his engagement in interactive Q&A sessions on Ethiopian Radio Sunday, where he explored the influence of media personalities on a local and global scale, highlighted his expertise and dedication to promoting constructive conversations and mutual understanding within the realm of media.
Family and Children
Journalist Eskinder; married Mrs. Genet Desta in 1997 and is the father of two daughters and a son.
